Reviewing other people’s pitches and blog posts allowed me to gain a better understanding of how well my own DA was progressing.
Through analysing other people's content I was able to reflect on my own in terms of content, structure, observations and evidence of research. Reading your own work and assessing it can be difficult but by reading others you can be more objective when assessing and it is easier to determine the areas that may require improvement.
After providing feedback on other people's work, I am able to reflect on my own pitch and I have realised that I could’ve provided more sources to back up my own observations within the field. For example, in one girl's pitch, she included screenshots from reports that she has used in her research. I felt if I had included this in my own pitch or accompanying blog it would have allowed my audience to understand how the research I had obtained shaped my DA and niche. I believe I should have further made it clear that I am drawing from lecture materials or other resources when discussing my DA.
I thought that my own DA contained high levels of professionalism and was easy to understand and read. I found that some other blogs that I saw focused less on visuals, which we are not marked on but I also think clean and tidy visuals can better get across your idea as the inclusion of images can communicate what words can’t sometimes. It allows the audience to gain a better idea of the DA itself.
I noticed that myself and other students were not overly explicit when relating to readings and lectures which I will use in future pitches. As I was not aware of the importance of including reading references in pitches none of my feedback related to that, which it should have. The pitches I did see were genuinely well presented and communicated an appropriate attitude. I think that sounding motivated within the video is important, and this was a factor that I tried to make sure came across in my own pitch.
In each blog post I provided feedback for, I ensured that I always gave a positive comment followed by a suggestion or critique. All of the suggestions I made I believe were helpful, and could potentially improve their DAs. My feedback was carefully thought out and worded so that I could provide specific feedback instead of just generic comments.
It is important to have visuals to back up observations, and show the audience that you understand the niche being researched. In the future when providing feedback, I think I will focus more on how they have integrated research, whether it is research reports, lectures and readings.
Overall, I believe my feedback was helpful, specific and positive but will be improved in future commentary.
