In my digital artefact I decided to create a Tik Tok series that focuses on health and fitness. I did a poll on twitter and found that the number one struggle people face is motivation when it comes to health and fitness. In order to address this my DA provides users with helpful advice, workout ideas, meal ideas, personal experiences, body positive content and activewear options to help them become better and more confident versions of themselves.
The levels of engagement has varied throughout the process, starting initially high in the beginning reaching nearly 900 views, to then dropping to around 500 views. I think this was because in the first video majority of the feedback in the comments was from friends and the more comments on a video increases its reach.
The other videos provided less biased feedback loops and allowed me to better understand the types of content users prefer to see and engage with. The feedback loops allowed me to compare the content in terms of comments, likes and views, and interpret whether this is a positive response or if my approach needs to be re-evaluated.
To better help me do the most with my DA, I created a mindmap to help understand and narrow down my strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities, in order to improve my DA's utility based on feedback.
I posted a “what I eat in a day” video , which had a reasonable amount of views but not as many likes, as this trend has become less popular now due to concerns raised of girls not eating enough. However, I still think this content is helpful as it provides healthy meal alternatives. In the lectures, we learnt never to assume things about our audience, and this was an example of that as I assumed users wanted to see this type of content but it was one of the least viewed and interacted with videos.
I posted a poll on twitter asking which content people preferred, and the majority wanted to see more workouts so I produced a core workout and a lower body workout.
I used a series of popular hashtags to increase views as well as used trending sounds. However, the visual aesthetics of the videos in regards to lighting and setting weren’t as good which I have reflected upon and think this has contributed to lower engagement levels. So, in my next workout videos I will focus more on the aesthetics of the videos so that they can appeal to my audience.
My body positivity video , showed how lighting and posing makes a large difference in how bodies can be manipulated online. This did quite well receiving 507 views and 46 likes, 2 shares and a comment. I am going to produce more of this content and also try to make it more visually appealing. In the next video I tested sharing personal experiences, focusing on my experiences on birth control, raising awareness of the side effects. This gained 555 views, 66 likes and 6 comments. Girls also reached out to me seeking support as they are having similar experiences which was amazing, seeing the power that starting a conversation can have. I have analysed this feedback and listened to my audience and am going to keep producing more of this content
I have closed the feedback loop by shifting focus onto the aesthetics of my videos which has increased engagement levels and I have iterated my videos accordingly making them more visually appealing. I have focused solely on user feedback and for this reason I have expanded the type of content in my DA so that it focuses more on holistic health instead of just fitness, as mental and women’s health is equally important. Hence, by inclusion of body positivity videos and discussions of contraception.
I am currently studying to become a personal trainer so I will be able to use this DA as a way to give out more professional tips, workouts and information to better meet my users needs. I would also use this as a business opportunity to potentially gain clients and make my name in the fitness industry.
I am so excited to see where I can go next with this DA!
