My digital artefact combines two of my greatest passions, creating videos and helping others. The week 2 lecture content assisted me when finalising my choice of medium, as I needed to consider the FIST principle (fast, inexpensive, simple, tiny) to ensure that I could do the most whilst still being achievable. It was through this principle that I could easily apply it to the platform of Tik Tok. I had already established a small presence on Tik Tok with a few thousand followers due to regular posting. I identified a problem that I had noticed among my friends during lockdown, as many had been experiencing low self esteem and had been struggling to stay active. I then drafted a sample purpose statement to start the ideating process of my DA, (see appendix 4) that guided it throughout. I started by creating a list of video ideas that could potentially appeal to this affected audience such as simple workouts, health and quick meal plans, hauls and mental health tips. I also created a series of Instagram polls to narrow down specific content that people would like to see (see appendix 1). In the next stage of observation I monitored users' responses, and found it was mostly from women aged between 16 and 24 years old that were interested in seeing this type of content (see appendix 5). This audience also aligned with the 2020 distribution of TikTok users in Australia by age group and gender.
During the defining stage of my DA the lectures explored how to create a starter pack which I created for my target audience (see appendix 2). This allowed me to better visualise my target audience and to develop ideas that would help provide better content. This content would help solve problems that they may have and allow personal growth to be made. My first example video I posted focused on a beginner at home lower body workout as my Instagram polls scored high in this category. The response was so positive, with many comments saying they liked the workout and wanted to try it for themselves (see appendix 3). I decided to title my Tik Tok series “Building a better you”, which perfectly captures the purpose of my DA, which is to help girls feel better about themselves. Tik Tok as a platform provides me with direct feedback from my audience, based on views, comments, likes and shares. Tik Tok is a highly interactive platform which means I can create a personal relationship with my target audience by responding to comments and posting specific content that is suggested by users. I am excited to create more content, gain confidence on camera and make a positive impact in people's lives even if it’s only small.

Hey Ella,
I love that you created your DA around something that you genuinely enjoy because I think that will make this process so enjoyable for you. I think ‘the better you series’ is what a lot of people need particularly at the moment. I love that you engaged with the users' from your TikTok videos as their engagement is so important to you. I also suggest that you could get inspiration from other health and fitness influencers who have a large following such as ‘Sarahs Day’ to gain insights into what content they are creating. I think using TikTok is such a great platform as it fits in with #FIST (fast, inexpensive, simple and tiny). You can efficiently create…
